Streb Qualifies for US Amateur

Tulsa, Okla. Kansas State senior golfer Robert Streb qualified for his second-consecutive US Amateur after a second-place tie at the par 70 Tulsa Country Club on Monday.

Streb finished with a two-round score of 4-under 136, including a round of 67 on Monday, the lowest round of the day. Alan Branton also carded a 4-under 136 after identical rounds of 68.

Andrew Landry, a senior at Arkansas, won the qualifier with an 8-under 132.

Streb qualified for the 2007 US Amateur in Sacramento, Calif., and finished just one stroke away from moving on to match play. He became the eighth different Wildcat to qualify for the Amateur last season and is just the third two-time qualifier in school history. The Wildcats have had at least one individual qualify for the Amateur in nine of the last 10 years.

The 2008 US Amateur is scheduled for August 18-24, at Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 4 in Pinehurst, N.C. Two rounds of stroke play narrows down the field before match play determines the champion.
