Former Cats Finish at Cox Classic

OMAHA, Neb. - Three former Kansas State men's golfers - A.J. Elgert, Aaron Watkins and Robert Streb - wrapped up successful tournaments Sunday afternoon in the Nationwide Tour's Cox Classic at the par 71, 7,145-yard Champions Run Course.

Watkins, who is ranked 30th on the Nationwide money list, had the best finish of the trio, finishing the tournament tied for 19th with a 15-under par 269 for the tournament. He started the day tied for third place but shot a 1-over par 72 in his final round to drop back in the field.

Elgert, who was a senior at K-State during the 2003-04 season, finished one shot back of Watkins at 14-under for the tournament, landing him in a seven-way tie for 27th place. He started the weekend in fifth place after carding the second lowest round on Friday with a 63 before shooting 70 and 69 over the last two rounds.

In the first Nationwide event of his career, Streb finished in a tie for 41st at 12-under par for the tournament. Streb, who had been playing on the NGA Hooters Tour this summer, finished the first two rounds tied for 24th at 8-under par 134.
