Chamberlin, Smell Fall Short of Championship Match

SHAWNEE MISSION, Kan. - Kansas State men's golfers Chase Chamberlin and Kyle Smell won three straight matchups before falling in the semifinals at the Heart of America Four-Ball at Milburn Golf and Country Club on Friday.

Chamberlin and Smell entered match play as the No. 1 seeded team after finishing stroke play at 16-under par over two rounds.

In their first round matchup, the pair defeated Mike Vanier and Scott Trindle, 4 and 2, to advance to round two. There, they were able to take down the team of Mark Terranova and David Kirschbaum, 3 and 2, to move on to the round of eight.

In round three, the duo punched their tickets to the semifinals by edging out Clarke Fry and Brad Welch, 2 and 1. The Wildcat teammates brought the semifinal matchup down to the final hole, but Korbin Kuehn and Thomas Zuzelski walked away the victor, 1 up.

The Wildcats begin their 2010-11 season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., on Saturday, September 11.
