Schulte, Smell Win Four-Ball Tournament

MISSION HILLS, Kan. Kansas State men’s golfers Jason Schulte and Kyle Smell teamed up to win the Kansas City Golf Association’s Heart of America Four-Ball Championship last weekend at the par 70 Indian Hills Country Club.

 

Schulte and Smell, both sophomores, finished the stroke-play portion of the tournament tied for 17th after an 8-under 132.

 

However, the duo, which started match play as the No. 19 seed, breezed through the first four rounds to advance to the championship to face Brad Boan and Zechariah Potter. Schulte and Smell defeated the Wichita State golfers 1 up to win the championship.

 

Current Wildcats Ross Geubelle and Joe Ida also advanced to match play, but were defeated in 20 holes by Matt Ewald and Josh Taylor in the round of 32.
