Former Wildcats to Play in Kansas City Nationwide Event

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former Kansas State men’s golfers Aaron Watkins, Robert Streb and Joe Ida will participate in the Nationwide Tour’s Midwest Classic, Thursday through Sunday, at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan.

Watkins, a letterwinner from 2001-04, will tee off at 7:40 a.m., on Thursday and 12:40 p.m., on Friday. A veteran of the Nationwide Tour with 76 career events, Watkins currently ranks 36th on the money list in 2011 at $90,193. His best finish this season was sixth place at the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open in June.

Ida, who has played in eight events on the Gateway Tour this year and two more on the NGA Hooters Tour, will tee off at 2:20 p.m., on Thursday and 9:30 a.m., on Friday. Ida lettered for the Wildcats from 2007-10 and received a sponsor’s exemption into this weekend’s field.

Streb will tee off 10 minutes later than Ida both days, starting at 2:30 p.m., on Thursday and 9:30 a.m., on Friday. A letterwinner from 2006-09, Streb has competed in 15 events on the NGA Hooters Tour this year, placing in the top 10 five times. He qualified for the Midwest Classic earlier in the week at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan.
