MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team will open the 2014-15 season by traveling to Monterey, California, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 15 and 16, to compete in the Saint Mary's Invitational at The Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course.

The event will consist of 36 holes on Monday with the first 18 holes being played on Bayonet Golf Course and the second 18 holes on the Black Horse Golf Course. Tuesday's final round will be played on Bayonet Golf Course. Play begins at 8 a.m. (PT) both days.

"We are really looking forward to getting the season started out in California," said head coach Grant Robbins. "I've been pleased overall with the work the guys have put in over the past couple of weeks, and I know they are excited to go out and compete."

K-State's lineup will consist of Seth Smith, Connor Knabe, Matt Green, Trent Evans and Hank Simpson. Last year, Smith held a stroke average of 74.72 with one top-5 finish, while Knabe tallied a 74.50 stroke average. Green, who earned a medical hardship for the 2013-14 season, competed in a team-high-tying 12 events as a freshman in 2012-13.

In addition to the Wildcats, the event field will include Saint Mary's, Boise State, Cal Poly, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Florida Gulf Coast, Fresno State, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Davis and UC Riverside.

"We just need to stay focused, trust our preparation and be committed to the process," said Robbins. "If we do that, we can be successful."
