MANHATTAN, Kan. – Colbert Hills has been named the eighth-best campus golf course by Golfweek in its 2010 list of the 30 best college courses in America.

This is just the latest honor bestowed upon Colbert Hills, which has also been named the No. 1 public course in the state of Kansas by Golf Digest and one of the top 100 golf values in the United States by Golf & Leisure and Maximum Golf.

“Obviously, being here since the construction phase of Colbert Hills, it has been great to see it grow and evolve,” said men’s golf head coach Tim Norris. “We’ve really made a lot of improvements to the course since it was opened, from the bunker project that has been a big part of those enhancements, and the new clubhouse as well. We’ve got the new indoor facility and locker rooms out there. We are all awfully proud of what we have here.”

Over the last 10 years, Colbert Hills has hosted the 2003 NCAA Men's Central Regional, the 2002 Big 12 Women's Championships and numerous Kansas Amateur Championships. The facility is Audubon Silver Signature certified, a K-State teaching and turf research facility, the first PGA Tour Collegiate Licensed Golf Course and the host to the National First Tee Academy.

“It's great for K-State, our program and Manhattan,” said women’s head coach Kristi Knight. “It is a credit to Jim Colbert, the founders and Dave Gourlay and his staff. We are very blessed.”

“This ranking shows we are being recognized across the country,” Norris added. “This is a totally public facility, which is great for our university and the students who may not be intercollegiate golfers but enjoy the game just as much.”

K-State will host the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament, September 27-28, at the award-winning course. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
