Wildcats to Host Jim Colbert Intercollegiate

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men’s golf team will host the 2010 Jim Colbert Intercollegiate at the nationally acclaimed Colbert Hills Golf Club, September 27-28. The event tees off Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The final round is another shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to come out and support Wildcat golf.

THE LINEUP: K-State will feature five golfers to compete as a team, while the rest of the roster will compete as individuals. Seniors Kyle Smell and Jason Schulte will lead the team charge, along with sophomores Curtis Yonke and Ben Juffer and freshman Thomas Birdsey. Competing as individuals will be senior Ross Geubelle, sophomore Chase Chamberlin and a trio of freshmen in David Klaudt, Tyler Norris and Jack Watson.

LOOK AT THE FIELD: The seven-team field includes: Central Arkansas, Creighton, Drake, Kansas State, South Dakota State, UC Riverside, and UMKC.

2009 JIM COLBERT INTERCOLLEGIATE: K-State took first place at 2009 Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, September 21-22. The rain shortened two-round tournament saw the Wildcats shoot a 1-over par 569, 22 strokes better than second place Kansas. Graduated senior Joe Ida took top honors individually, carding a 4-under par 140, with fellow graduated senior Mitchell Gregson finishing one stroke back to take second place. Amongst returning golfers, senior Jason Schulte and sophomore Curtis Yonke each tied for eighth place at 3-over par 147.

LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats showed improvement in their second outing of the 2010-11 season, finishing in a tie for sixth at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. Senior Kyle Smell, who was playing as an individual, finished in a tie for eighth place at 1-over par. Sophomore Ben Juffer and freshman Thomas Birdsey led K-State in the team scores, each shooting 3-over par to tie for 12th place.
