MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s golf team continues its fall schedule as it plays host to the 2012 Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, October 1-2, at the par-72, 7,525-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan. Each day’s action - which is free to the public - will begin at 8:30 a.m., with 36 holes played on Monday and the final round played on Tuesday.

Since opening in 2000, Colbert Hills has hosted the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate a total of 10 times, with this year’s event marking the sixth-consecutive year of competition. In the last five events at Colbert Hills, K-State has not placed lower than third, taking home top honors in back-to-back years in 2008 and 2009.

The Wildcats are coming off a ninth-place finish in last week’s St. Mary’s Invitational, and will look to take full advantage of playing on their home course.

“This is a terrific opportunity for all of our guys to play their home course,” said head coach Tim Norris. “Our team needs to get on a roll as we play four of the next five weeks, and there is no better place to start than here at Colbert Hills.

“The course is in great shape with the recent rains, so I anticipate some good scoring if the forecast for the Monday and Tuesday holds true,” continued Norris. “From a course-knowledge standpoint, there will be no surprises, which always helps the confidence factor.”

The scoring lineup for K-State will consist of seniors Ben Juffer and Curtis Yonke, juniors Carney and Daniel Wood, and freshman Matt Green. Juniors David Klaudt and Tyler Norris, and freshmen Conner Schrock and Hank Simpson will be competing as individuals.

Coming off a pair of top-25 finishes, Wood looks to continue the success that he has had over the first two events of the year. Wood carded a 2-over 215 to finish in a tie for 20th in the Shocker Classic and followed that up with a 5-over 221 to tie for 22nd in the St. Mary’s Invitational.

Competing in the first K-State scoring lineup of his career, Green shook off a slow start in the opening round in the St. Mary’s Invitational to card a team-best 18-hole score of 73 in the second round of play. Green opened his collegiate career by firing a 7-under 206 to finish third in the Shocker Classic, missing the event’s top spot by just one stroke.

In last season’s event, the Wildcats were paced by Kyle Smell and Chase Chamberlain, who led K-State to a third-place finish by earning ninth and 10th place honors, respectively. Then-sophomore Alex Carney, who was competing as an individual, recorded a 6-over 222 to finish the tournament in a tie for sixth place.

Joining the Wildcats in the 2012 tournament field will be Creighton, Drake, Idaho, Missouri State, Nebraska-Omaha, Southern Illinois, Valparaiso, Western Illinois and Wichita State.

Post-event recaps and results of the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate will be available at kstatesports.com at the conclusion of play on Monday and Tuesday. K-StateHD.TV's "K-State Gameday" will be on site with host Brian Smoller and former Wildcat great Jim Colbert. The show, which will provide an in-depth look at the K-State men's golf program and Colbert Hills, will be shown at 7 p.m., Monday evening.
