Wildcats Battle Through Up and Down Day One

RENO, Nev. - Following a first-round score of 3-under par 285, the Kansas State men's golf team fell during round two of the Wolf Pack Classic on Monday. The Wildcats sit in 11th at 8-over par 584 (285-299) heading into Tuesday's final round. Utah leads the field at 14-under par 562 (283-279), two strokes ahead of Iowa State.

Although the Wildcats slipped during round two, head coach Tim Norris was upbeat, hoping for better things to come on Tuesday.

"We had a good morning, even though we didn't get off to a good start," said Norris. "This afternoon, we had too many sixes. We made enough birdies, but just too many bogies in the second round. I thought we did good for this being our first time out here, but we need to come out and play well tomorrow."

After opening his sophomore campaign with just one round of even- or under-par golf through six rounds, Robert Streb carded rounds of 1-under par 71 and even-par 72, tallying a 143 through the first 36 holes. The Edmond, Okla., product, will begin the third round tied for 20th.

Junior Kyle Yonke, who led the Wildcats at the Wolverine Intercollegiate when he tied for 17th, fired a first-round score of 2-under par 70, but dropped after a second-round 77. He is currently tied for 49th at 3-over par 147.

Freshman Mitchell Gregson is also tied for 49th heading into Tuesday's final round following a 73-74-147 (+3) performance.

Freshman Joe Ida and senior Jay Kramer each pitched in counting scores in the first and second rounds, respectively. Ida counted a 71 for the team score during round one and is tied for 61st overall at 5-over par 149. Kramer's second-round 76 was the fourth and final counting score for round two. He will begin round three tied for 66th at 6-over par 150.

The Wildcats will finish up the Wolf Pack Classic with the final round on Tuesday, with an 8:00 a.m. (PT) shotgun start. Results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com as soon as they are available.
