Cats Look for a Win in Reno

MANHATTAN, Kan.  The Kansas State men’s golf team, fresh off a second place performance in Louisville, will travel to Reno, Nev., to participate in the Wolf Pack Classic, Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7. The event will tee off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Monday for the first 36 holes. The third and final round will also be a shotgun start Tuesday at 8 a.m.


LOOK AT THE FIELD:  The field contains 13 teams from around the country including in-state rival Wichita State and Big 12 foe Iowa State. The entire 13-team field includes: Air Force, Arizona, Fresno State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, Nevada, New Mexico State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, Tennessee, UTEP and Wichita State.


LAST WEEK:  After carding a final-round score of 17-under 281 on Tuesday, the Kansas State men’s golf team jumped from sixth to a second-place tie during the final round of the Cardinal Intercollegiate. The Wildcats had very strong performances from Robert Streb, Joe Ida, and Mitchell Gregson for the second week in a row as each finished under par and placed in the top-20.


RECORD PACE: In just two tournaments this season, K-State has recorded nine individual top-20 finishes. In 2007, it took five tournaments to reach nine top-20 finishes. Robert Streb, Mitchell Gregson and Joe Ida have accounted for six of the nine top-20 finishes including six top-10’s and three top five’s.


2007 WOLF PACK CLASSIC:  Arizona won the 2007 Wolf Pack Classic, claiming a 16-stroke victory over Iowa with a three-round total of 14-under 850 (281-285-285). Arizona’s Tyler Neal was the individual medalist at six-under 211 (69-71-70). Kansas Stat came home with a ninth place finished after carding a 293-285-303881 (+17).


EARLY SUCCESS:  Senior Rebort Streb extended his streak of sub-par rounds to six, the latest tying for the ninth-lowest round in school history. His score of 204 also tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in school history and was one stroke shy of his career-low of 203 at the 2007 Pacific Invitational. Joe Ida finished five shots back of Streb as he tied for seventh at 7-under 209, while Gregson, who was tied for 23rd after the first day, came back to card a 67 during the final round to tie for ninth at 6-under 210. Four out of the give Wildcat golfers in Louisville shot a least one round under par for the tournament.


HOST WOLF RUN GOLF CLUB:  The University of Nevada will host the 12 other teams at The Wolf Run Golf Club. The Wolf Run Golf Club is par 72 and spans 7,100 total yards.
