Cats Back to Ohio for Firestone Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Kansas State men's golf team will return to the Buckeye State as the fall season progresses for the Firestone Invitational, Oct. 6-7, at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The tournament will consist of 36 holes Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday with play beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET) both days.

Sophomore Matt Green, who carded a 3-under par 210 at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, is coming off a strong finish as the individual medalist, the first under new head coach Grant Robbins. Green tied for third in last season's Firestone Invitational by carding a 2-under par 214.

"We are looking forward to playing at Firestone this week," Robbins said. "It's a great course and I think it sets up well for us."

The Wildcats will use the same scoring lineup as the first two tournament of the season as, in addition to Green, K-State will send Seth Smith, Connor Knabe, Trent Evans and Hank Simpson to Akron. The squad tallied a ninth-place finish last week, while it finished eighth in the season-opening Saint Mary's Invitational.

"The guys are gaining some confidence, we just need to go up there and have a good game plan for the course and be committed to every shot," said Robbins. "It's all about sticking to the process and the guys are getting better at understanding how to do that."

Joining K-State at the Firestone Invitational will be Akron, Ball State, College of Charleston, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Illinois State, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Old Dominion, Presbyterian College, Saint Mary's, USC-Aiken, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky and Xavier.
