MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off its first victory of the 2012-13 season in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, the Kansas State men’s golf team will travel to the Buckeye State to compete in the 2012 Firestone Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, October 8-9, at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday, with an 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start to begin play each day. This year’s trip will mark the fourth-consecutive year that K-State has played in the Firestone Invitational, with its best result coming in 2009 where the Wildcats carded a 25-over 889 to place fourth.

The last time out, K-State was able to take advantage of competing on its home course as the Wildcats placed all five members of their scoring lineup in the top 20 on the way to the team’s second win in the last five events dating back to April’s Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

“This course will be a really good test for us,” said head coach Tim Norris. “It has a lot of holes, both long and short, and I guess like the cliché in golf, ‘You will have to use every club in your bag,’ and that is certainly the case at Firestone. I am excited about the team coming off a win, and I know our guys are eager to get back at it on Monday and Tuesday.”

The scoring lineup for K-State will include seniors Ben Juffer and Curtis Yonke, juniors David Klaudt and Daniel Wood and sophomore Kyle Weldon.

Juffer and Yonke are coming off top-five finishes in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate with Juffer carding a 10-over 226 to finish in fifth place, while Yonke recorded a 6-over 222 to capture third-place honors. The senior duo has a combined three appearances in the Firestone Invitational.

Klaudt will be competing as a part of the K-State scoring lineup for the first time this season and the seventh time in his collegiate career. This season, Klaudt has competed as an individual twice with his best performance coming in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate where he fired an 11-over 226 to tie for sixth place.

Wood has been the most consistent golfer for the Wildcats this season, notching two top-20 finishes - including a second-place finish in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate – and he is currently in the top three on the team in several statistical categories including stroke average, lowest 18-hole score and total rounds played.

Weldon shot a 2-under 217 to tie for seventh place in the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic in his only appearance for K-State this season.

Along with the Wildcats, the event’s field will include Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Davidson, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Iowa State, Louisville, Maryland, Miami of Ohio, Nebraska, Ohio, St. Mary’s, Samford, South Carolina-Aiken and Wisconsin.
