Wildcats Travel to Akron

UP NEXT:  The 15th-ranked Kansas State men's golf team returns to action as the Wildcats travel to Akron, Ohio, to play in the Firestone Invitational, Monday, October 12, through Tuesday, October 13, at Firestone Country Club. The event tees off Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT). The final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday with golfers teeing off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the conclusion of the tournament.

LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 12-team field includes: Akron, Eastern Michigan, Kansas State,Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Pacific, Rhode Island, St. Mary's, Toledo, Western Carolina and Xavior.

LAST TIME OUT: Senior Joe Kinney led the Kansas State to a strong finish as he recorded a career-best finish at the Wolf Pack Classic. Kinney propelled the Wildcats to its lowest score of the tournament with a 7-under par 271 final-round score, giving K-State a total score of 9-under par 855 to tie for fourth place with Fresno State. Kinney finished second at 8-under par 208. Right behind him, in a tie for 11th, was Mitchell Gregson, who shot a 2-under par 214.

ITS KINNEY TIME: After being in the scoring line-up in just two events last season, senior Joe Kinney is off to a tremendous start to the 2009-10 season. Kinney has played in all three events for the Wildcats, has recorded two top five finishes and leads the team in stroke average at 70.63. During this span he has been able to record personal best in every statistical category.

NATIONAL Recognition: In the lask weeks GolfWeek rankings, the Wildcats broke into the top-25 after winning the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate. In the latest poll, the Wildcats have moved even farther up to 15th. Along with the team's great ranking, senior Mitchell Gregson is currently rated the 11th best player in the nation by the same publication.
