Wildcats Fall to Finish 13th at Alister MacKenzie

FAIRFAX, Calif. - Following a final-round score of 19-over par 303, the Kansas State men's golf team fell three spots to finish 13th at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational Tuesday. The Wildcats carded a 54-hole score of 20-over par 872, their second-lowest output of the season, however low scores were plentiful on the par 71, 6,606-yard Meadow Club. California, who held a 10-stroke lead heading into the final round, held on to take home the team title at 26-under par 826. It's the Bears' second-consecutive victory at the event.

"The guys battled hard," head coach Tim Norris said. "We just had a couple of mishaps here and there, and when the field is so tightly packed together, those add up. The parts are there, but we just need to put it together team-wise in a whole tournament."

California's Michael Wilson carded a 65-67-70202 (-11) en route to taking home individual honors. He was one of only three golfers in the field to shoot sub-par golf in all three rounds.

Junior Kyle Yonke led the Wildcats after a career-best 54-hole score of 2-over par 215, tying for 22nd overall. The Lubbock, Texas, product, originally set his career low of 216 at the Alister MacKenzie last year, and equaled that score at the Wolverine Intercollegiate this year. It also marks just the second time in his career that he led the Wildcats in an event.

"Kyle has been playing some really good golf. His play has been very encouraging," said Norris.

Freshman Mitchell Gregson also recorded a career-best score as he finished the tournament tied for 35th at 5-over par 218.

One shot behind Gregson was Robert Streb. The sophomore finished tied for 46th at 6-over par 219.

Freshmen Joe Ida and Jason Schulte finished within one stroke over each other, as Ida shot an 11-over par 224 and Schulte a 12-over par 225.

Kansas State will end the fall portion of its schedule with the Club Glove Intercollegiate, Oct. 23-24.
