Wildcats Travel to New Mexico

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The 50th-ranked Kansas State men's golf team returns to action as the Wildcats travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to play in the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Monday, October 26, through Tuesday, October 27, at New Mexico State Golf Course. The event tees off Monday with a 36-hole shotgun start at 9 a.m. (CT). The final round will begin at 9 a.m. (CT) on Tuesday with another shotgun start. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the conclusion of the tournament.

LOOK AT THE FIELD: The 16-team field includes: Air Force, Boise State, Idaho, Illinois State, Kansas State, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico State, North Texas, Rhode Island, Santa Clara, Texas State, UNLV, UTEP, Washington State, Western New Mexico.

LAST TIME OUT: After shooting back-to-back scores of 8-over par 296 in the first day, Kansas State stayed steady the final day as it carded a 9-over par 297 in the third round to finish fourth at the Firestone Invitational. K-State senior Joe Ida, who entered the final round in third place, was able to hang on to record his second top-five finish of the fall season as he finished fourth with a 1-under par 214.

2008 HERB WIMBERLY INTERCOLLEGIATE: Kansas State had a strong performance in the final round, carding 1-over par 285 for a 54-hole score of 17-over par 869. The Wildcats improved one spot to finish second place. With the second place finish, K-State placed in the top five in each of its fall tournaments.

HOST - NEW MEXICO STATE GOLF COURSE: New Mexico State will host the 18 teams at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. The New Mexico State University Golf Course is an 18-hole layout that covers 7,040 yards and is a par 72.
