Wildcats Tied for Third at Pacific Invite

STOCKTON, Calif. The Kansas State men’s golf team moved up one spot to sit in a tie for third place after day two of the Pacific Invitational. The Wildcats carded a 2-over par 286 on Tuesday, giving them a two round score of 3-over par 571 at the par 71, 6,720-yard Brookside Country Club.

In first place heading into Wednesday’s final round is Rice. The Owls carded its second straight round of 1-under par 283 for a two-round score of 2-under par 566. In second place is Oregon after the Ducks carding a second-round score of 3-over par 287 to give them a 36-hole score of 2-over par 570. Tied with the Wildcats is Fresno State after scoring an 8-over par 292 second round.

“We had a great day and hopefully we can it all together tomorrow and finish out the fall season in style,” said head coach Tim Norris. “We played pretty well; we had some birdies near the end. On the last hole Robert (Streb) made a great par. He was kind of all over but made a great save out of the sand trap on the last hole. Good positions on the course were difficult again today. The guys have done a great job as far as taking what the golf course will give you. Last year there were lots of under par scores and this year is a totally different golf course. I am really happy with the fact that they haven’t pressed our tried to make up shots where it really is not for the taking. Tomorrow we will see what happens, we have a shot and that’s all you can ask for.”

T.J. Bordeaux of host team Pacific is atop the leaderboard with a 5-under par 137 heading into the final round. Tied with Bordeaux for first place is Michael Buttacavoli of Rice. Wildcat golfer Mitchell Gregson sits two strokes back in a tie for third place with a two-round score of 3-under par 139.

Senior Robert Streb carded a second-round score of 2-over par 73, giving him a score of even par 142 and now sits in a three-way tie for 10th place heading into Wednesday’s final round. Kyle Smell also carded a 2-over par 73 on Tuesday to give him a score of 3-over par 145 and placing him in a tie for 20th place going into the final round.

Wildcat golfer Ross Geubelle is currently in a tie for 28th place after carding a round two score 1-over par 71, giving him a 36-hole score of 4-over par 146. One stroke behind Geubelle in a tie for 36th place is junior Joe Ida, who sits at 5-over 147.
