Former Golfers Move to Second Stage of Tour Qualifying

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Wildcats Matt Van Cleave and Aaron Watkins advanced to the PGA Tour's second stage of qualifying for membership on the 2007 tour.

Van Cleave tied for 23rd on the par-72, 7,147-yard Lantand Golf Club in Lantana, Texas, Oct. 24-27. He carded a 75-70-71-76292 (+4). This is the second-consecutive year that he will advance to the second round.

Aaron Watkins tied for 22nd following a 7-under par 281 performance. On the par-72, 7,133-yard San Juan Oaks Golf Club, Watkins shot a final-round 66 to advance to the second round.

The pair's next step towards gaining membership for the 2007 tour will come Nov. 15-18 at Southern Dunes G.C. in Maricopa, Ariz.

If the two are successful in the second frame, both will advance to the final stage of Q-School at the PGA West Golf Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The 6-round, 108-hole event will take place Nov. 29-Dec. 4. The top 30 players and ties at the final event become fully exempt on the PGA Tour for 2007.
