MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s golf team has announced the signing of high school golfers Henry Simpson, Connor Schrock and Matt Green to National Letters of Intent (NLI) for the 2012-13 season.

Simpson and Schrock are teammates at Shawnee Mission East High School where the two have helped the Lancers capture the past two Kansas 6A State Championships. In the 2011 championship, the two finished in a tie for fourth, and Green also finished in a tie for fourth to help his Olathe Northwest squad finish third.

“All three of the guys are very athletic players,” explained head coach Tim Norris. “They have no problem hitting it a long way. I think they are going to come right in and contribute. We have four of our top five guys graduating at the end of this year or next year, so we have some holes to fill. I am very confident that these guys can step in. I have had the luxury of watching them play for two to three years, and I have watched them progress. They all have a great work ethic and are very competitive and have a passion for the game. I have witnessed them progress physically and emotionally with their golf over the past couple of years. I just see them getting better and better.”

Simpson has achieved numerous accomplishments on and off the golf course in the past year. He qualified for the 2011 Kansas State Amateur Match Play and earned a seventh place finish at the 2011 Kansas Junior Amateur. Simpson also earned a victory at the Collegiate Preview Series at the Country Club of Nebraska. Other strong performances include a runner-up finish at the Midwest Junior Golf Tour (KMJGT) at the St. Joseph Country Club in Missouri and fifth place honors at the Junior America Golf Scholars (JAGS) at ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. Simpson is also involved in volunteer activities within the community which include holding a co-chairman position for a fundraising golf tournament for Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Schrock also encountered numerous successes in the past years, including a stellar 2011 high school golf campaign where he was named to the Kansas 6A All-State First Team and earned individual title honors in two tournaments, while adding another runner-up finish. He recorded two top-10 finishes in AJGA events in 2010 and notched a fourth place finish at a Collegiate Preview Series event at the Country Club of Lincoln this year. Schrock is also actively involved in the community, participating in volunteer work with Simpson.

Green captured two Midwest Junior Golf Tour (MWJGT) titles in 2011 at the Winterstone Golf Course in Independence, Mo., and at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Olathe, Kan. He has also been extremely competitive in the AJGA events in 2011 as he claimed a fifth place finish at the Nebraska Junior and also put together top-20 finishes in AJGA events in Kansas City, San Antonio and Springfield, Mo.

“We love to keep the players from this area in this area,” added Norris. “It is a very good thing. You take away a lot of the unknowns when you keep a player in his area. This has worked out very well for us in the past and hopefully it will work out again with these three young men. All three of these guys are very familiar with each other and their games, and I think this will be a great thing for us down the road to watch these guys mature and compete to be top-flight golfers in our conference.”
