Watkins Advances to PGA Tour Finals

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Wildcat golfer Aaron Watkins tied for ninth out of 77 players in PGA Tour's second stage of qualifying for the 2010 season.

Watkins will now compete in the 106-hole finals at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., which will be played December 2-7. The top-25 finishers and ties become PGA Tour members. The remaining players receive playing privileges on the Nationwide Tour for the 2010 season.

At the second stage in Beaumont, Calif., Watkins shot rounds of 69-69-70-70 for a 10-under par 278. In the final round, Watkins was one stroke above the cut line before making birdies on 13, 15 and 18 at the Oak Valley Golf Club.

In Watkins' rookie season on the PGA Tour, he earned $263,939 in 18 events while compiling a 71.31 stroke average. His top finish came at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans where he finished tied for seventh, just three strokes behind the winner as he earned $203,175.
