Kansas State Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening Statement…
“It is a great win for our program and our team. I fell terrific about our defensive effort today and I am just really proud of how we competed on that end of the floor. I felt as if we had a good mix of players take the floor today that gave us an opportunity to win the game. I am excited about getting this win against a top-25 team like this one. That is our second top-25 win of the year and I just feel good about this basketball team. We have come a long way in the last three or four weeks and we have got to keep getting better as we move forward.”

On the rhythm of the team…
“I think we had a good feel for one another today. The defense was giving and we made some good decisions. There were a lot of possessions where especially in the second half where we did not convert. It was not a beautiful thing but we did make enough 3’s early in the game and had good rhythm. It was a result of the five players on the floor playing in rhythm together. Individually the people that shot the ball well were really focused in and that was big.”

On the performance from Alina Voronenko…
“Alina has that potential to shoot like that. It has been probably 48 months since we have seen her do that. It was really exciting to finally see her shots drop in. Hopefully this will build her some confidence and allow her to play the game that she is capable of bringing to the floor.”

On Alina being in the lineup more…
“For the better part of the last two weeks Alina (Voronenko) has been running with the No. 1’s. On Monday after a road trip out east we had a real good Monday. I said after the road trip to Texas that we are going to be a team that bring a disposition everyday and a work ethic. Alina was bringing it. She showed a lot of toughness during the week no matter what she was confronted with.”

Junior forward Alina Voronenko
On her outstanding performance off the bench…
“I just felt really confident today. I got an opportunity to step up today and I seized it.”

On her confidence in today’s contest…
“I think it was due to getting more reps in practice. I was out last season so I did not get a lot of repetition. Practice is all that matters right now for me. Doing well in practice has given me the confidence to do well in games.”

Sophomore guard Brittany Chambers
On the importance on opening Big 12 play with a win…
“We were very well prepared for the game. We knew exactly what they were going to run and the tendency of the other players. I thought we stuck really well to our game plan. Players stepped up in big time situations. Alina (Voronenko) especially as you saw tonight. The win is huge for us. I think we are a really young team and I was really happy to see us come out tough. We were not scared with what they were throwing at us. Sometimes in the Big 12 you can distracted with what others are doing, but we stuck with we wanted to do. We kind of controlled the tempo so that was really nice to see.”

On the adjustments in the second half…
“In the second half I needed to stay away from the ball a little bit and not crowd it. They were playing really tight on me. I think I needed to just stay away from the ball and come to the ball when it is needed. I also needed to trust my teammates because they stepped up big today.”

Oklahoma State Quotes

Head Coach Kurt Budke
Opening statement…
“I told them in the locker room that Andrea Riley’s freshman year we had the same kind of make-up that we have right now. A few JC kids and a lot of freshman. Our first game in the Big 12 we laid an egg just like today. We got beat by 30 and I think what you tell the kids is that it is early, you have lived through it now, you know what is like to play in front of nine thousand people and you know what it is like to play against a very well coached team and a team that is very prepared. Now how do you respond from it. We do not have one player on this team that has ever been to K-State. So that kind of tells you the youth and inexperience that we bring on the road. I have been in this game for too long and I knew that this was coming at some point and time, I was just hoping that it was not coming today but if anybody was going to beat us like that I am glad that it was Deb (Patterson) who is a good friend of mine and does a great job.”

On the K-States shooting performance…
“It just really makes it tough. We were not playing the best defense in the world, but any mistake that we made K-State would knock one down. I think that the young ones were down on themselves and when you do not score on this end and them come down and play pretty good defense and then they bang a long three on you and now you go down and do not score again and then it happens again it does kind of just snowballs. I think that it is just part of the learning process with this team that we are just going to have to learn through. Give K-State credit for hitting shots tonight..”

On Precious Robinson’s performance…
“Our one positive tonight. Precious has been through the grind and she has had success. She has not started to this point but I might have to rethink that because she played and she was not scared. I thought she was very aggressive on both ends and did a nice job. It is nice having someone like Precious come off the bench but we might have to start her.”
