K-State vs. Iowa State Postgame Quotes

Kansas State Head Coach and Players Quotes

Head coach Jeff Mittie
Opening statement…
“We played about every defense that we have. To Iowa State’s credit, they found the right player a lot of times against us. I thought our group did some things that were pretty good, but at the end, Iowa State got their number one weapon too many times. Their three ball is their number one offensive weapon, and we gave it to them way too many times and way too many good looks to be successful tonight.”

On losing the initial lead…
“They found a rhythm. They found a lot of right players tonight. They made very good passes that were not always the easiest skip passes to make. Every time we did something different, they seemed to be on cue. I thought (Nikki) Moody was very good, 12 assists. She ends up with 20 points. It was a huge game for her. She is responsible for 40 some odd points out there maybe more if you really look at it for threes, so she is responsible for a lot of points. She had great vision tonight, and I thought her team played very well.”

On the 13-3 run…
“We were doing a lot of things defensively. We probably got a little confused at times. They just had us on our heals all night. In that 13-3 run, we had 10 shots to their six. We missed some shots that we needed to hit in that stretch. We actually talked about that in one of our timeouts, but they had stretched it out and I just think Moody, in that stretch, was very good. (Nicole) Blaskowsky, they found her numerous times in that deep corner, and she does not miss very often once she gets her feet set.”

Forward Breanna Lewis
On getting frustrated from not blocking very many shots …
“I was really frustrated with myself on defense today. So it really hurt.”

Iowa State Head Coach Quotes
Head Coach Bill Fennelly
Opening Statement…
“Really good teams win for us. We talked about that before the game, about the end of the season and surviving in this league. There are two things you have to do: you have to avoid losing streaks, we lost to Baylor in our last game, and we have to try to find anyone that we can sweep. We did both of those tonight. We ended a losing streak and got two quality wins over a great K-State team. I am very excited for our team and I was very impressed by how we played.”

On second half play…
“We shot well in the second half. I thought we spread the court a little bit better, our spacing was better. I think we only turned the ball over five or six times in the second half. Usually what happens with our team if we make shots, a lot of the time it is a three. Defensively, I thought we did better. I thought we did a lot better job on [Breanna] Lewis in the second half; we made it a little tougher and did not give up very many open looks from the three. It was a combination of good ball handling, timely shooting and some sound defense.”
