Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement...
"I am really excited to get a victory here at home. This game was a grinder. We just could not sustain momentum, and sometimes those kind of games are the games you have to play. I am really proud of our team's answer to the nature of this game. It was a hard game, you had RaeShara Brown who played out of her mind and is one of the best guards in this league, and tonight really showed that. She created a lot of momentum for their basketball team. For us we never really had a momentum player until the beginning of the second half when Jalana (Childs) took over our offense. She gave us an opportunity to get a little bit of distance in this game. She put us in a position where we could compete with confidence in the second half. I am proud of her and our team's ability to grind it out in a game that was not necessarily pretty. It took a lot of effort and a lot of mental resolve to win tonight."

On Jalana Child's play ...
"I thought the opening of the second half was very critical for us. I thought the game could have got away from us, and we had to find something to hang our hat on. We were having a difficult time figuring out what it was going to take or who was going to step up. Jalana (Childs) was willing to step up and make the big plays.  She really took the game over at that point in time. They had RaeShara (Brown) on their end, and we had Jalana (Childs) on our end. Jalana (Childs) was the answer that we desperately needed."

On the impact of K-State's bench...
"We talked about that with our team after the game that this was truly another team win. It was so critical that everyone came into the game focused on making a positive difference, relative to their strengths. We saw Alina (Voronenko) stretch the defense with a three pointer, and then she came back and showed her versatility in some later possessions in the game. Kelsey Hill stepped up and played major minutes for us. She played well defensively and on offense she wants the responsibility of taking care of the ball. Tonight we saw individuals step up off the bench. I thought Julianne Chilsom's minutes were far better than they have been in the last couple games.  We had a lot of things fall into place tonight and to pick up a win in a game like this that is what needs to happen."

Junior forward Jalana Childs
On her play tonight...
"The coaches and my teammates have been on me about stepping up and trying to win games.  There was not anything different about this game. I did not look at Missouri as a rival but as another game and I wanted to step up anyways. Today was the day to step up, and it needs to continue onto the next game. I have played well in practice, and I have practiced hard.  I just have to show it in games.  I just had a lot of fun out there today and that is really important to me."

On working hard in the paint...
"Taelor (Karr) tells me all the time that if I post up strong she will pound the ball into me. She and the other guards did a good job of getting the ball into me, and I kept attacking the rim. Things just worked out for me today."

Junior forward Alina Vornenko
On her early three-point shot...
"I knew I had to step up because the way I played in the first half was not good enough, but I just kept at it in the second half and that was my main motivation to keep playing well."

Missouri Quotes

Head Coach Robin Pingeton
On play of Jalana Childs ...
"She is a good player. I thought she really wanted the ball, she was aggressive going to the rim and she is hard to guard. She played well tonight. When she got to the basket I thought we contested the shots. She is nice player for them."

On play of RaeShara Brown...
"She has kind of been doing that for us all season long to be honest with you. She has a great toughness. She has been a great leader for us and she has worked hard at practice and outside of practice. She has improved both offensively and defensively. I think the thing that stands out the most to me this year is her leadership. She has really embraced this team and I think she is doing a really good job for us."
