K-State vs. TCU Postgame Quotes

Kansas State Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Jeff Mittie
Opening Statement…
“I thought we did a lot of great things. Obviously, coming into this game you would have to handle their pressure, you know that coming in. You have got to make sure that you play with the right tempo because it is going to be a tempo game, and I thought our group was very good. I did not expect to have 93 points tonight, but I think we got the right shots to do that. I thought we made good decisions.”

On the first half being the best half of the season…
“Yeah, I think so. And we followed it up with, I thought, a really good second half. You always worry that, uh-oh, you just played your best half, but I felt really good about their focus. And I even felt good coming out after halftime that they were locked into what we needed to do to continue to play well. That is a real credit to these players. I thought it was a real players’ game. I felt they made the right decisions and it was fun to watch them.”

On Breanna Lewis’ game…
“I think she continues to improve. I think she has had better clarity coming into each game about these are the moves that are available to me in this game. I hope we are coaching her better in terms of the practices and doing those things. She played very well and made great decisions tonight with the basketball.”

Forward Breanna Lewis
On scoring 28 points…
“They have been coaching me well. During practice we have been working on half court finishes and, plays when I am in the short corners and getting into position to get to the basket. I feel like that really helped me during this game because I was able to incorporate it into this game.”

Forward Ashia Woods
On TCU’s defense…
“I think it all goes back to preparation and practice. I feel like we tried to work on poise and control because we were expecting a trap. Once we got it into the middle of the floor things worked and as a whole we just connected and had good chemistry with that. It just flowed well.”

TCU Head Coach Quotes
Head Coach Raegan Pebley
On K-State in first half…
“They just did a great job offensively. They did a solid job in moving the ball and getting the ball into the paint to Lewis and her converting and finishing. Our defense was nonexistent for the most part tonight. When your defense is nonexistent, that is going to allow a team to shoot 64 percent from the field.”

On the come back in the second half…
“It is part of our identity and their character to just never give up and keep fighting. I will never tire of that and take that for granted. I am very proud of the fact that they kept fighting and the way they were trying to communicate with each other. They dealt with a lot of adversity in this game and I feel like we may have lost the game but we did not lose our team chemistry and we did not lose our identity.”

On cause of the team’s adversity
“Defensively not performing very well. We had foul trouble and that was frustrating for the team. We were hoping to get to the foul line more and that did not happen. Those types of things can happen on both sides of the ball. You have got to stay strong and stay together during those moments.”
