K-State vs. Texas Tech Postgame Quotes

Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head coach Jeff Mittie
Opening statement…
“Obviously, not the finish that we wanted. I thought for the most part we were outplayed most of the day, with the exception of an eight minute stretch. We were fortunate to be back in the game and have a chance to win it. Their star player rose up and hit a big shot to put the thing into overtime. She made a guarded 15 footer over our best defender. She is a good player, and she has the ability to do that. Then they just ran away from us in overtime. We kind of played the overtime like we played most of the game.”

On Texas Tech’s shooting percentage…
“I do not want to take anything away from Texas Tech. I thought they hit some tough shots today. I thought they moved the ball very well. I did not like us most of the day. I did not like our energy, focus, and we were pounded on the glass most of the day. There really was not any good stat that we had on the bench. There were not many deflections, all the things that we keep track of, whether we do what we are supposed to do. It really was not good most of the day.”

On Haley Texada’s play…
“I thought she played really well. She got a couple big steals and got out on the run. She made a good drive late. I thought she played very well, and made good decisions with the ball.”

Senior Haley Texada
On playing hard toward the end of the second half…
“I just got a lot of momentum and was just thinking to play hard enough to get a steal and go. That was the mentality to just push it in and play defense as hard as we can to get the ball.”

Sophomore Breanna Lewis
On defensive play…
“I feel like everyone on their team, including the ones on the bench were physical so that was the most defense I have ever played.”

Texas Tech Head Coach and Player Quotes
Head Coach Candi Whitaker
Opening Statement…
“It was a great game, both ways. It was a fun game to watch and to be a part of and a little bit more scoring this time on both teams. A big win for us, to come on the road and walk away with this one. It was huge.”

On improving offensively…
“I thought we did a great job understanding their zone and how we were going to attack it. We were going to attack it, and we were patient. We found seams, and we dribbled and attacked it more. Last time, we looked to pass it too much, so I thought we did a good job at sharing the basketball and knocking down open shots. We had a good day. Rayven Brooks shot it extremely well and a lot of people stepped up and made shots when we needed them.”

On team’s response to force overtime…
“You know when they are on a run you are trying to stop it if you can. I told them in the locker room that I thought they did a great job about not getting down and continuing to fight. Then they went on a run and Amber (Battle) made the shot that gave us the shot. Then I think we were just really good in overtime.”

Guard Rayven Brooks
On finding openings to score…
“Just having confidence every time I shot it and that is about it.”

On having success on the offensive end…
“Amber was able to find me and my other teammates were able to find me. We also worked on seams, and I was able to find the seams and my teammates passed it to me.”

Guard Amber Battle
On injured ankle hurting her in the final minutes of the game…
“I tried not to think about it really. I just wanted to get back out there and help my team win, so I just tried not to think about it.”

On making the shot that forced overtime…
“I had a flash back to last game when I had a game winning shot. I just tried to be patient and my post players made a good screen.”
