Kansas State vs. Colorado
K-State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement...
"It was a good defensive effort by our team tonight at home. You have to create a situation for road teams where it is tough for them to get their baskets and I thought we did a great job with that tonight in this victory."

On closing out the first half strong...
"I thought that we were just settling in and playing at the pace that CU was bringing to the floor. In our timeouts it was all about telling the team that we needed to be better and we have to step it up. There was just a high sense of raising the bar. I thought our team did a great job of coming out late in the first half and establishing we were going to take control of the game as opposed to just playing it. I thought we made some quality decisions. The last play of the half, where Brittany (Chambers) went to Jalana (Childs) was a nice play. But it was the characteristic of the fact that we had to become the aggressors and we got things going a little bit. But to me, it was critical in how we were going to compete in the second half. It took a while, probably the better part of 23 minutes to get there but finally, we did."

On defending Colorado forward Brittany Spears...
"I thought Brandy (Brown) did a nice job early in the game. She found herself defending Brittany (Spears) early. It seemed like Spears was floating around on the perimeter a lot tonight and that put us in a position to defend well. Again, she is one of the best players in our league, in terms of the skills and athleticism that she brings to the floor. Tonight was not a great night for her, but I thought that we were pretty accountable. We did a nice job of making sure that the shots that she took were guarded shots. It is amazing that over the course of the game that she finished with nine rebounds. Very often , those rebounds she gets are put-backs and finishes for her. So I think that staying big and continuing to defend the possession after the rebound is always a big factor for Brittany Spears."

On the program's 799th win...
"I think it is a tribute to the coaches and the players over the course of the history of this program that have competed so hard and so well, very often times under the radar. It is an amazing achievement for a program. It is a testament to the great coaches that have come before me and to all the great players that they have had the opportunity to coach. In my 15 years here, I have had the opportunity to watch a lot of great, highly-competitive, tough-minded players. Those are the people that have put Kansas State in the position to become one of the finest in the game. 800 wins in the history of the program is a very significant milestone."

K-State Player Quotes

Sophomore guard Taelor Karr
On her performance...
"I feel like the last couple games that I let my team down by not knocking down shots and not really showing up for them. My coaches gave me the green light to shoot and my teammates have confidence in me, so it feels good to actually knock them down for them. So, they set me up and gave me good looks."

On tonight's game mentality...
"We knew that we needed to come out and get a win. We have lost our last two games and we needed to turn it around. So I just wanted to come out confident, and when I knocked down one of my first few shots, it was a big boost."

Junior forward Jalana Childs
On tonight's performance ...
"I thought we had a lot fun, especially towards the end of the first half, and that is what I like to see from us. I am proud of our whole team, and I just enjoy playing together like we did tonight. I am very proud that we bounced back from two losses moving forward. This was a good and fun win for us."

On the impact of tonight's win...
"This win tonight was one that we definitely needed. Our goal is the post season, and our record is going to play a big factor for us to get into the post season. These wins against these teams are very significant for us. We need to go into the basket with that mentality. We are all hungry, and we have to stay like that for the course of the season because it is going to get harder when we get to the Big 12 Tournament."

Colorado Quotes

Head Coach Linda Lappe
Opening statement...
"Not too much to say about that one. They made a great run at the end of the first half and continued into the second half. They shot the ball lights-out. After the first 16 minutes, we just could not stay with them."

On Taelor Karr...
"We have talked about it. If she hits the majority of her shots, she is one of the best players in the country. She has a high release, and it does not take her much time to get her shot off. She is always moving and coming off screens. When she has wide-open looks, she becomes a pretty good shooter."

On the play of K-State...
"They did a nice job of changing it up against (Brittany) Spears. (Brittany) Spears could never get going. She did get some looks coming out of the second half, but sometimes you just have one of those nights. We lost focus on a few things, the things we were doing in the first half. We had a couple of mental lapses, and when you play against a good team, they take advantage of that. Anytime you have your hands down on the shot, they are going to knock it down. When you do not have help-side, they are going to take advantage of that. We just have to make sure we continue to get better."

Senior forward Brittany Spears
On K-State's defense...
"They did not defend me in a special way. I just had an off night."

Sophomore guard Chucky Jeffrey
On second half strategy...
"We tried not to get discouraged. We knew that they went on a run, so we thought at halftime we had to come out and have our own run. We could not give them anymore. If we came out and jumped on it from the beginning, we could have been right back in the game."
