K-State Shoots Past Newman in Exhibition Finale

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women’s basketball concluded its exhibition schedule on Monday night in Bramlage Coliseum with an 80-30 win over Newman. The Wildcats used extended scoring runs in the first and second halves.

The Basics
• Score: Kansas State 80, Newman 30
• Quick Hitter: A 20-0 run in the first half propelled the Wildcats to the win. Haley Texada notched a game –high 17 points.
• Leaders: Senior guard Haley Texada notched a game –high 17 points. Sophomore forward Breanna Lewis tallied 12 points, four blocks, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Sophomore guard Kindred Wesemann collected 10 points, five assists and three steals.

First Half
• K-State took control of the first half early, as the Wildcats used a 20-0 run over a six-minute stretch in the frame to secure a 27-6 lead.
Haley Texada caught fire late in the first half and went on an 11-2 scoring run of her own to build K-State’s lead to 40-10 with 3:54 to play. Texada led the Wildcats in the opening half with 13 points.
• Five Wildcats scored five or more points in the half and five Wildcats registered at least one connection from 3-point range including three from Texada.

Second Half
• K-State opened the final half with a 15-0 run, allowing Newman’s first basket with 13:32 to play.
• The Wildcats would build its lead to a high of 52 with 4:24 remaining.

Noteworthy
• K-State held a 44-12 (30-14 against Emporia State) edge in points in the paint on Monday. In the two exhibition games, K-State outscored its opponents 74-26 in the lane.
• On Monday night, K-State tallied a 35-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
• The Wildcats dished out 20 assists on 31 made field goals on Monday night. Against Emporia State in the first exhibition game, K-State recorded five assists on 19 made field goals.
• Of the 13 Wildcats that saw action on Monday night, 12 registered at least two points with three carding double figures.
