K-State vs. Hampton Postgame Quotes

Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Jeff Mittie
On overall performance tonight...
"Well, I thought there were some decent parts of this game. It was kind of just a grind it out performance, I do not know any other way to describe it other than that. It really wasn't too pretty, from our standpoint, too many turnovers, a lot of our own problems. It did not have anything to do with what Hampton was doing, other than the fact that we had not faced that defense much this year. I just felt like we were a little impatient and a little out of sync, but we grinded through it. Our shooters shot the ball pretty well from the three tonight. I thought [Breanna Lewis] struggled at times tonight; we struggled getting her the ball early. The best thing she did was she kept working and eventually we kind of found her and she worked her way to a pretty solid night. "

On individual improvement from last week...
"We were just out of sync most of the night. I think our guards had trouble recognizing what they were in. Our trigger point for the offense, we struggled getting it to that point. Give Hampton credit, their defense kept us off balance most of the night. We just had to grind through it and find some points."

On team progression...
"I did not like us tonight, as much as I have the previous two nights. The concerns for me are the season lows in steals. Then, we have to do a better job, knowing that zero is their best player. I did not see us having the awareness of where she was at like we will need to have on future players. I thought we took a step back in that regard because she had a pretty solid night."

On getting to the line...
"We need to have an advantage there in regard to the number of attempts. Our goal is to keep people off the line and we have been decent at that. Tonight it seemed like the officials were letting both teams play. There were not many whistles inside and they let us block a lot of shots in there. It is certainly something we want to keep working on and have an advantage there. "

Junior Guard Bri Craig
On adjusting to a new form of offense...
"I just think we have not worked that much against the zone. In the early part of the game we were moving the ball, finding the open players and I was able to hit a couple shots. That is pretty much what happened. With us shooting because of the zone I think it was more that we were moving the ball and getting it to the open player."

On taking pride in being a good zone defense...
"I would say, zone versus man is more team oriented and we all have to work together. You have to expect that your teammates are going to be in the right spot, so you can get turnovers and steals. It is really about us trusting each other and that is really good for us as a group."

Sophomore Forward Breanna Lewis
On adjusting from first half to second half...
"I kind of learn what I need to improve on from the first half going in to the second half. Instead of just saying that I did not get touches and I want to get more touches in the second half. I just take advantage of the second half and find positions to get open."

On becoming a more inside type team...
"I think it was a difficult transition at the beginning. Going though it and practicing it we have made it us. We just have to get good at it, practice it and play it. I feel like we are just learning."
