Kansas State Coach and Player Quotes
Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement…
“I think the greatest positive from our point of view of this game was that we had players come off the bench contributing. They were finding ways to score and making stops. It was a good overall win for our basketball team because we got the opportunity to go deep into our basketball team. Coming off that game against Iowa it was a priority for us tonight and exploit that opportunity for us in this game. I felt good about that in this win today.”

On the defensive efforts tonight…
“I thought our first half defense continued along the lines that we had been bringing to the floor. I was not exceplionaly pleased with our transition defense; I thought we were a little compliant at time with that. We were allowing some things in early offense that is important for us to limit. Overall I thought we had good defensive play in the first half. We made their shots difficult and rebounded well. We are going to have to be good defensively to be competitive in the Big 12, so every opportunity to take the floor starts and ends with our defense.”

On the assists numbers tonight…
“We had good ball distribution today and when we got the lead I did not feel that we had a letdown. I did not think we got sloppy on consecutive possessions and that is important as we build on the season. I thought we did a nice job on that today.”

On having other people step up and make plays…
“A positive for us tonight was learning that on any given night there is a responsibility we have for everyone to contribute. If you see a teammate not having a window or not being able to convert you have to recognize that, step up and make plays. We saw that tonight from Taelor (Karr) and Brandy (Brown). Overall I think we got that from our bench and that is important because you are not going to be hot every night and have the same window.”

Junior forward Jalana Childs
On how the improvement of Branshea Brown has affected her game…
“She has been working hard. It has been really good to see her do that. In the games, she is helping us more. Last year she did not score; she was not a scorer. With her scoring now, I feel that it is going to help the team as a whole. I do not really think that it is a relief off of me. We are just playing basketball. I am just really happy for her. I know how hard she works and I am proud of her. Her mentality is to do good things for our team.”

On bouncing back from the early offensive struggles…
“Defense is what we take pride in. Before the game, I told our starting five that our defense was going to win the game. We want to continue to build off of that. When we force turnovers, we get lay-ups. That is the K-State way. We want to take pride in our defense and then build off our offense.

Sophomore guard Taelor Karr
On having a breakthrough game…
“At the beginning of the year I was struggling and my shot was not falling. I just wanted to come in and get some extra shots up. I thought my teammates got me some good looks and passed to me when I was open. I just need to play to my strengths. I felt a lot more comfortable out there.”

On being able to shoot the ball effectively tonight…
“I just felt really good out there. I was getting some really good looks. I was wide open on a few and they were just falling for me.”

North Dakota Coach Quotes
Head Coach Gene Roebuck
Opening Statement…
“I thought we played hard but we are very young. Kansas State is very physical. They are a Big 12 team. Their physicality hurt us a lot, especially inside. On the perimeter, we did a pretty good job defensively and I think we got better today. The big thing is to keep improving, keep our young players from getting really discouraged. They are in a situation right now where they are thrown into the fire and maybe it is too soon for them but if they keep positive and learn from it, they will be much better basketball players down the road.”

On where to go from here…
“Specifically we have to get better on defense. I thought we executed our sets well, but our passing needs to improve, especially our passing into the post.”
