K-State Devours Tigers 81-66

MANHATTAN, Kan. For the ninth time this season, four Kansas State players reached double figures in scoring on Saturday night as the Wildcats defeated Missouri 81-66 in Big 12 women’s conference action at Bramlage Coliseum.

 

The Wildcats (14-2, 2-1 Big 12) and Tigers swapped baskets throughout the opening minutes of the game until K-State broke out on a 13-4 run midway through the first half to go up 22-14 at the 8:26 mark. K-State’s Kimberly Dietz tallied six of her 12 total points during the scoring stretch.

 

Missouri (13-4, 1-3 Big 12) closed the gap, pulling within three on two Tiffany Brooks free throws with 0.6 seconds left in the half. K-State went to the break leading 32-29. Two Tiger players scored in double-figures in the first half with Brooks and EeTisha Riddle each having 10.

 

The Tigers fired out of the gates, tying the ballgame three times early in the second half before K-State doubled up Missouri on a 24-12 run over the next ten minutes. The Wildcats sealed the victory with Shana Wheeler scoring six of her eight points in the final 1:10.

 

The Wildcats were led in scoring by sophomore forward Marlies Gipson with 18 points, 12 of those coming in the second half. Gipson has now hit double figures in scoring in 13 of K-State’s 16 games this season. Senior Claire Coggins added 16 points followed by Shalee Lehning’s 14 points and seven rebounds.

 

Brooks led the Tigers with 26 points, including 8-8 from the free throw line, before leaving the game at the 2:07 mark with a left leg injury. Riddle recorded her sixth double-double of the season, tallying 13 points and 10 boards in 37 minutes of action.

 

Kansas State will travel to Nebraska Wednesday, Jan. 17 to take on the Huskers.
