No. 25 K-State Comes Up Short at No. 13 Baylor

WACO, Texas The 25th-ranked Kansas State women’s basketball team took 13th-ranked Baylor to the wire but in the end the Bears proved to be too much as the Wildcats fell 79-70 Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.

Claire Coggins and Shalee Lehning each scored 20 points to pace Kansas State (14-4, 2-3), which led by as many as seven in the first half before dropping their second straight Big 12 road game.

The Wildcats also got 10 points and seven rebounds from Ashley Sweat and trailed just 72-70 after a jumper by Shana Wheeler with just under three minutes to play.

But K-State was unable to score again as Baylor (16-3, 3-2) tallied the final seven points of the game to end a two-game losing streak.

Bernice Mosby scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the Bears. Baylor also got 15 points from Latara Darrett, 14 from Jessica Morrow and 12 from Angela Tisdale for its fifth straight win over the Wildcats.

A 3-pointer by Kimberly Dietz put the Wildcats in front 37-35 with 3 1/2 minutes left before halftime. But Baylor closed out the first half on a 10-1 run and took a 45-38 lead at intermission.

Mosby's three-point play put the Bears ahead 40-37 at 2:23, and Morrow's 3-pointer capped the outburst with 3 seconds left.

Mosby and Morrow paced Baylor's first-half scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively, while Lehning led Kansas State with 14.

K-State returns home to face Kansas at Bramlage Coliseum on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The game, which can be seen on Fox Sports Net Midwest, tips at 7 p.m.
