Lehning Named to Wade Trophy Watch List

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State senior guard Shalee Lehning has been added to the 2008-09 State Farm Wade Trophy watch list in an announcement by the State Farm Wade Trophy Committee on Wednesday. The “Wade Watch” list consists of 30 student-athletes from seven conferences.

Lehning adds Wednesday’s honor to two previous national lists: 2008-09 Wooden Award watch list and 2008-09 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award candidate. The product of Sublette, Kan., owns the Kansas State career record for assists with 711, ranks fourth in career rebounds with 823 and 30th in career points with 1,055. She is the only player in Big 12 history to register 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 700 assists for her career. She also holds the Big 12 and Kansas State records for triple-doubles in a career (4) and a season (2).

This season, Lehning leads the nation in assists at 8.8 per game and paces the Wildcats in rebounds per game at 7.5. She also ranks 21st in the Big 12 in scoring at 11.7 points per game and is shooting .566 from the field.

The renowned “Wade Watch” list for The State Farm Wade Trophy is comprised of student-athletes who are members of an NCAA Division I institution and are selected based on the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.

The Wade Trophy Coalition was established in June of 2000 when the WBCA partnered with The National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS). For the past nine years the two have worked together to present The State Farm Wade Trophy Player of the Year Award. A committee comprised of coaches, administration and media from across the United States selects the winner.

Kansas State begins a two-game road trip on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
