The WBCA's "Pink Zone" initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

The benefactor of this initiative is the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, named for the recently passed legendary North Carolina State women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, who lost her own fight with breast cancer.

This season, K-State Athletics and the K-State Super Store worked together to produce an official shirt for this event. The pink shirt features a purple Powercat on the front and can be purchased for only $10 at any home basketball game, the K-State Super Store or Cats Closet in Manhattan, or www.catscloset.com. For each shirt sold, 25% of the cost will be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. To date, 850 shirts have been purchased raising $2,125 for the cancer fund. By wearing your pink shirt to the game on Feb. 15, you can receive a general admission ticket for $3.

This initiative has grown from approximately 120 institutions participating in the inaugural 2007 campaign to over 650 and counting during the 2008 season. During last season’s event in Bramlage Coliseum, the Wildcats wore pink warm-up tops with the breast cancer ribbon, pink wristbands and pink shoelaces.
