Lehning Named to Academic Team; Placed on Watch List

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State guard Shalee Lehning has succeeded both on and off the court this season, as she was selected to the CoSIDA/Academic All-District VII third team on Thursday. This is Lehning’s first All-District honor.

 

To be nominated for the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America teams, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career.

 

The junior from Sublette, Kan., holds a 3.72 GPA in broadcast journalism and was named earlier this year to the Fall 2007 Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a 4.0 GPA during the semester.

 

Lehning has also been recognized for her efforts on the court this season by the Nancy Lieberman Award as a 2008 “Player Making the Buzz.”


The Nancy Lieberman Award, presented by the Rotary Club of Detroit, is given annually to the top women’s collegiate point guard. Lieberman is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and holds the distinction of being the only athlete to receive the Wade Trophy twice.

 

The 5-9 guard from Sublette, Kan., is averaging 10.4 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, 6.4 assists per game. and 2.4 steals per game. Her assist total leads the Big 12 and is ninth in the nation. She is also second in the Big 12 in assist/turnover ratio at 1.90 and is 14th in the conference in rebounds per game. Among the top-15 national assist leaders, she leads the group in rebounds per game.
