Lewis, Young to Play for AIA This Summer

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- A pair of K-State women's basketball student-athletes will compete on the international stage this summer, as Breanna Lewis and Erica Young have been selected to play for Athletes in Action (AIA) this summer from June 17-27 in Poland.

Lewis, Young and their AIA teammates will depart for Poland on June 17 and will take part in a five-day training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Gizycko, Poland, located in the northern part of the country. Following the training camp from June 24-26, AIA will face national teams from Poland, Latvia and France.

Joining Lewis and Young on the AIA roster this summer are: Marisa Sell (Roberts Wesleyan), Christen Johnson (Northwestern), Madison Buck (North Dakota), Lennique Brown and Julianna Prim (North Carolina State), Ivory Crawford (Illinois), Faith Randolph (Virginia), Lauren Brown (Elon) and Monique Billings (UCLA). The team will be coached by Trent May (Grand Canyon) and assisted by Brett Vana (Weber State) and K-State graduate assistant Micaella Riche.

During her break out season in 2014-15, Lewis became the first player in K-State women's basketball history to register the combination of 300 or more points, 150 or more rebounds, 90 or more blocks and 50 or more steals in a single season.

The junior-to-be forward from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, led the Wildcats in a number of statistical categories including: 11.5 points (15th in the Big 12), 6.4 rebounds (11th in the Big 12), 2.9 blocks (2nd in the Big 12) and 1.6 steals (12th in the Big 12). She set career-highs in every statistical category in 2014-15. Lewis anchored one of the Big 12's top defenses, as she blocked a single season school record 97 shots.

Young also recorded a career year in 2014-15, as she finished the season with averages of 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds. The rising junior from Tampa, Florida, tallied season totals of 78 points, 51 rebounds, 10 steals, nine blocks and eight assists in 25 games played.

For the 2015-16 season, K-State returns eight letter winners from the 2014-15 squad that recorded an overall record of 19-14 and a second round appearance in the WNIT. Joining Lewis and Young will be rising senior Bri Craig (6.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg), rising junior Kindred Wesemann (8.0 ppg, 2.6 apg) and rising sophomore Shaelyn Martin (4.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg). Overall, K-State returns 61 percent of its scoring, 70 percent of its rebounding and 63 percent of its assists.
