Pair of Wildcats on WNBA Rosters

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former K-State All-Americans, Shalee Lehning and Nicole Ohlde, have begun their 2010 campaigns in the WNBA. Ohlde is in her sixth season in the league, while Lehning is embarking on her second.

Lehning, recently voted team captain by the Atlanta Dream, has helped the organization to a 2-0 start. The Dream secured a road win to kick off the season at San Antonio (75-70, followed by a home-opening win over the reigning Eastern Conference champion, Indiana Fever (66-62). Lehning has started both games this season.

The product of Sublette, Kan., and current assistant coach for the K-State women's basketball team, has fully recovered from her season-ending shoulder injury in her rookie campaign to post averages of 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game this season.

Ohlde, playing for the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury for the second straight season after four years with the Minnesota Lynx, has yet to play in the 2010 campaign. The Mercury are 1-0 this season, as they opened the 2010 season with a 78-77 win over Los Angeles on May 15.

For her career, Ohlde is averaging 9.4 points per game on a .436 field goal percentage, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.8 blocks.

Both Ohlde and Lehning will be within the vicinity of K-State fans this summer, as each organization visits the Tulsa Shock. Ohlde's Mercury will make the first of two appearances on Tuesday, May 25 and will return on Thursday, July 22. Along with Ohlde's two trips to Tulsa, the Atlanta Dream will visit the Shock on Tuesday, July 27.
