Patterson Picks Up Win No. 200 in 72-67 Victory

MANHATTAN, Kan. Marlies Gipson recorded a career-high in points and collected the fourth double-double of her career as Kansas State (1-0) defeated UW-Green Bay (0-1), 72-67 at Bramlage Coliseum on Friday.


Gipson dropped 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the way for head coach Deb Patterson, who picked up her 200th-career victory with the win.


The Wildcats had three players reach double-digits in points, as Kimberly Dietz added 15 and freshman Ashley Sweat contributed 10 in her collegiate debut.


Gipson scored 11 of her 17 points in the first half as K-State held the Phoenix to 8-of-32 (25%) shooting in the first half, holding a 38-26 lead heading into the halftime.


The Phoenix came out firing after the break, with senior Nicole Soulis scoring 13 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to help UW-Green Bay get back into the game. The Phoenix, shooting 53.3% in the half, cut the deficit to six points at the 4:48 mark, 62-56.


K-State pushed the lead back to 12 points on Sweat’s jumper with 1:42 remaining in the game to put the game out of reach.


The Wildcats will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 13, as they take on the Creighton Bluejays at Bramlage Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
