Wildcats Fall To Wisconsin At UNLV Shootout

LAS VEGAS, Nev. Kansas State women’s basketball team dropped its first game of the 2006-07 season to Wisconsin, 56-53, at UNLV Lady Rebel Shootout on Friday afternoon.

 

Junior Kimberly Dietz led the Wildcats with a game-high 14 points.  Sophomore Marlies Gipson added 12 points and seven rebounds while freshman Ashley Sweat chipped in nine points and cleared a team-high nine rebounds.  Senior Clair Coggins finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

 

K-State started the game strong with seven straight points and took an 11-2 lead five minutes into the game.  Wisconsin got back into the game forcing 15 Wildcat turnovers in the first half and took advantage of 11 second chance points to take a 30-27 halftime lead.

 

K-State came out of the lockeroom and outscored the Badgers 13-7 in the first nine minutes of the second half to take a 40-37 lead.  Wisconsin tied the game at 40 with three straight free-throws at 8:49 mark.  After both teams traded baskets, the Badgers took a four-point lead with 20 seconds left in the game.  Coggins knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit to one point but it wasn’t enough as the Badgers sealed the game with two free-throws.

 

The Wildcats shot 37 percent from the floor and held Wisconsin to just 29 percent shooting.

 

K-Sate will face Elon in the consolation game tomorrow at 3 p.m. (CT).
