WELLINGTON, Fla.- Kansas State equestrian riders Rachel Webster and Larissa Laffey had strong performances, making the Equitation Over Fences consolation final and Equitation on the Flat final ,respectively, on Friday at the WEF challenge.

“Rachel and Larissa represented K-State very well today,” said head coach Casie Maxwell. “It was a tough competition in a fantastic facility and they both handled the pressure well. It was a great experience for both of them just to be here.”

Webster’s day started with a match-up against Baylor’s Samantha Schaefer. Webster dropped a close 85-80 decision. In the first round of the consolation bracket, Webster knocked off Katie Miranda of UT-Martin, 85-60. In semifinal round, Webster faced off against Texas A&M’s Emily Williams, 78-72, to move into the final round. In the consolation finals, Webster and Miami of Ohio rider Catherine Sarosy put on a great show, with Sarosy winning a close match, 85-82.

Laffey earned a place in the Equitation on the Flat final, after topping UT-Martin’s Kara Bergenty, 158-140. In the finals, Laffey went head-to-head with South Dakota State’s Megan Violand. Laffey came up just short in her bid for a win, dropping the final to Violand.
