COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The seventh-ranked Kansas State equestrian team wrapped up competition at the Big 12 Championships Saturday as it finished fourth after falling to No. 5 Baylor, 9-6, at the Brazos County Expo Center.

"We made a few too many mistakes against great teams this weekend that kept us behind," said K-State head coach Casie Lisabeth. "We had some really exceptional rides as well, but at this point in the season it really takes everyone being exceptional to pull out a win. A&M and Baylor rode great and definitely made us work for it. We need to go home and clean a few things us for Nationals but I was really happy with the progress we made from Day 1 to Day 2 at this competition."

K-State's Western squad went nose-to-nose with the Bears, but was edged 4-3 by Baylor.

On the Reining side, senior Alecia Zimbelman was named match MVP for her effort against her Baylor counterpart. The St. Francis, Kan., native notched her second win in as many days by knocking off Barbara Aiken, 142-138.5.

"I was very excited and honored to get MVP today and it was a great way to end my last Big 12 experience," said Zimbelman. "I will build off the momentum and confidence gained this weekend going into Nationals."

K-State's Sam Etsell picked up her fourth win of the season by defeating Baylor rider Katherine Berg, 136-133. In Horsemanship, freshman Rachel Wetherell, who also scored in yesterday's match against Texas A&M, bested BU's Blair Bergeson, 149-147.5.

The Wildcat Hunter Seat team got off to a hot start, taking two points early in the match but was knocked off by Baylor, 5-3.

In Equitation Over Fences, freshman Sarah Mershon earned her second victory of the weekend by out-riding Kara Fergusson of Baylor, 153-149. Fellow freshman Catherine Avolese tallied another early point in Fences action for K-State by besting Bear rider Taylor Brown, 157-138.  Junior Stephanie Patterson was the lone point scorer for the Wildcats in Equitation on the Flat as she breezed by Taylor Brown, 157-144.

K-State will close out the 2010-11 season April 14 in Waco, Texas, at the 2011 VENC National Championships.  Information about the event and seedings will be posted on kstatesports.com as they are made available.
