MANHATTAN, Kan.- In a preview of the upcoming season, the Kanas State Equestrian team competed in the third annual Purple-White scrimmage on Sunday at Timbercreek Stables. The Purple team came out on top, 19-4, at the end of the day.

“I thought it was extremely productive to see everyone on our team in the arena,” said head coach Casie Maxwell. “It was good to see them put pressure on themselves, see the team come together and help each other out. We saw some holes in some of our riders but that is ok because this is what it is for.”

The purple team swept all four Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors on the day.

Senior Shana Barnett took home the MOP honor in Equitation Over Fences after her strong ride was enough to edge out senior Madison Wayda. Freshman Christina Martinelli earned the MOP in Equitation on the Flat in her Wildcat debut.

Senior Chayna DeNicolo garnered MOP honors in Horsemanship after her victory over freshman Sydney Anson. Freshman Cheyenne Adams also had an impressive debut, beating fellow freshman Kelsey Karanges on her way to an MOP.

K-State will have a few weeks to practice before hitting the road for the season opener at South Carolina on Sept. 20. The Wildcats return to Manhattan for the home season opener on Sept. 28 against Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State.
