No.5 Wildcats Bounce Back With Road Victories

DOVER, Del. – After dropping a decision to No.3 South Carolina on Friday, the No.5 Kansas State Equestrian team bounced back to defeat Delaware State, Ohio State and Miami (Ohio) on Saturday. K-State took home seven Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors.

“Our team rode really strong today and took advantage of the opportunity to build momentum this weekend,” said head coach Casie Maxwell. “We had to be flexible in our game plan today, but our team took those changes well and rose to the occasion. I have to give a huge congratulations to our MOPs for leading us in the right direction. They all had outstanding performances, but it was truly special to see some riders earning that accolade for the first time (Alexis Graves, Alyssa Lombardi) or the first time in that event (Cat Avolese).

The Wildcats defeated Delaware State 13-3.

The Hunter Seat team looked impressive, winning 6-2 over the Hornets. Jacquelyn Bogstad, Rachel Webster and Henley Adkins all scored points in Equitation on the Flat. Webster picked up her first MOP of the season in the event. In Equitation Over Fences, Madison Wayda, Avolese and Webster all scored victories. Webster earned her second MOP of the day in the event.

In Western, K-State came out on top, 7-1.

The Wildcats Horsemanship team earned a 4-0 sweep. Danielle Kemper, Kelly Bovaird, Rachel Wetherell and Chayna DeNicolo all picked up points for K-State. Bovaird earned the MOP accolade in the event. The Reining team was led by Emily Stockford who earned the fourth MOP for the Wildcats in the matchup. Along with Stockford, Jordan Cox and Kara Guy also picked up wins.

In the match against Ohio State and Miami (Ohio),K-State came out on top, 9-6.

K-State’s Hunter Seat team came out on top, 6-1. In Equitation on the Flat, the Wildcats won 3-0 over Miami (Ohio). Laura Lafnitzegger, Wayda and Avolese all took home victories. Avolese took the MOP honor in the event. Equitation Over Fences ended 3-1, in favor of the Wildcats. Freshman Alexis Graves earned her first career MOP honor. Shana Barnett and Webster also scored victories.

The Western team fell to Ohio State, 5-3. K-State and Ohio State tied in Horsemanship, 2-2. Alyssa Lombardi took home her first career MOP accolade while Bovaird earned another win. Guy was the lone point scorer for the Wildcats in Reining.

K-State returns home on Saturday for a Big 12 matchup with No. 4 Oklahoma State at Timbercreek Stables.
