No. 5 Wildcats Trounce No. 9 New Mexico State

·       Score: (5) Kansas State 14, (9) New Mexico State 5

·       Records: Kansas State (2-0), New Mexico State (0-1) 

Quick hitter: After winning the season opener, the No. 5 Kansas State equestrian team defeated No. 9 New Mexico State on Thursday at Timbercreek Stables.


·       The Wildcats took home victories in both Hunt Seat, 7-3, as well as Western with a score of 7-2.

·       The Wildcats defeated NMSU in three of the four disciplines.

·       Kansas State swept Equitation on the Flat with outstanding performances by all competitors.

·       The Wildcats brought home three Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors, Henley Adkins in Equitation on the Flat, Sydney Anson in Horsemanship and Savannah Smith in Reining.

·       Kansas State swept the Equitation on the Flat with a score of 5-0.

·       The Wildcats are now 12-1 while competing at home over the last two-plus seasons.

Equitation over Fences

·       New Mexico State secured its only discipline win of the afternoon, a 3-2 defeat of K-State.

·       Sophomore Taylor Schmidt took home her second victory of the season as she defeated the Aggies' Cori Cromwell, 86-84.

·       K-State's senior captain Madison Wayda collected herself another victory for the season as she carded a score of 84 to defeat NMSU Amber Tassel, 78.   

Equitation on the Flat 

·       Kansas State swept the Equitation on the Flat with outstanding performances by all competitors.

·       Sophomore Henley Adkins earned her sixth MOP honor in Equitation on the Flat conquering NMSU's Julie Frey, 94-81.

·       Senior captain Madison Wayda who now is 3-1 for the season defeated NMSU Chelsea Brady by a 92-86 victory.

·       Sophomore Gretchen Koenen made her debut as a Wildcat and brought home a point for the Wildcats' as she clinched the victory, 86-84, from Grace McMurry of NMSU

·       Wildcat sophomore Taylor Schmidt rode past Beth Solomon with a score of 82-75 making her undefeated thus far this season.

·       Sophomore Christina Martinelli carded a score of 83 to defeat NMSU Shannon Dooley, 74.  


·       In Horsemanship, the Wildcats defeated the Aggies, 4-1.

·       Freshman Kirsten Chamberland picked up her first triumph as a Wildcat as she defeated NMSU Katlynn Crine, 74-52.

·       Alyssa Lombardi, sophomore, is now 2-0 for the season as she clinched the win over the Aggies' Rianna Storey, 75.5-74.

·       Junior captain Danielle Kemper collected a score of 75.5 to navigate past NMSU's Clarissa Edgerton, 69.5, and keep her undefeated for the season as she goes into tomorrow's match, 2-0.

·       K-State sophomore Sydney Anson picked up her first title of the season as well as her first MOP as she defeated Hallie Padilla, 73-70.


·       A score of 3-1 sealed the achievement for the Wildcats in Reining. 

·       Senior captain, Savannah Smith, led her team to victory as she rode past NMSU's Kyla Myers with a 69.5-0 decision as she gained her first MOP.

·       Freshman Heidi Schmitz received her first conquest as a Wildcat as she gained a point by defeating Haley Newirk of NMSU, 70-69.5.

·       With last week ending in a tie, Junior Kara Guy carded a score of 71.5 to take away a point for Kansas State against NMSU Jamie Storey, 67.

·       "I thought the meet today went very well. I thought the girls brought their confidence and worked very well together. We made more mistakes today than we did last weekend, but our goal is to definitely clean that up before tomorrow's meet against South Dakota State."
