No. 7 Wildcats Dominate Buffaloes, 14-2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The No. 7 Kansas State equestrian team earned its second road win in as many days after taking down West Texas A&M, 14-2, on Saturday. The Wildcats (4-1) won its fourth straight meet in dominating fashion, with three Wildcat riders taking home Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors.

The Hunt Seat team registered yet another dominant performance, besting the Buffaloes, 7-1.

In Equitation on the Flat, the Wildcats swept the discipline and were led by a pair of captains. Senior Meredith Finch scored an impressive 86 in her ride to earn the first Wildcat point. Finch improved her season record to 5-0. Junior Rachel Webster continued her amazing form, recording a high score of 92 and earning her third MOP of the season. The sweep was completed after senior Larissa Laffey and junior Jacquelyn Bogstad defeated their Buffalo counterparts. Laffey also improved her fall record to 5-0.

The Equitation over Fences side was just as impressive for the Wildcats, going 3-1 on the day. Webster led the charge, scoring the first point for K-State. With the win, Webster’s season record stands at 9-1. Sophomore Madison Wayda earned her third MOP of the year, after defeating WTAMU rider Katie Kaegi, 82-63. Senior Kali Yates continued her campaign, racking up another win to push her unbeaten record to 7-0.

The Western portion for the Wildcats was just as impressive, also securing a 7-1 win.

In Reining, K-State fought hard and earned a 3-1 advantage. Junior Jordan Cox edged out Addie Davis, 70.5-69, giving the point to the Wildcats. Senior captain Sam Etsell and sophomore Savannah Smith scored a 68 and 69.5, respectively, for a strong finish. Etsell’s record this season now stands at 4-0.

On the Horsemanship side, the Wildcats tallied a 4-0 sweep to earn the overall victory for K-State. Junior captain Kelly Bovaird carded a 77 on her way to earning her second MOP of the year. Senior Hannah Ribera scored a 73.5 to defeat her opponent. Juniors Amelia Crites and Rachel Wetherell each tallied a score of 74.5 to finish the sweep. The Wildcats have now swept back-to-back horsemanship, after beating New Mexico State 3-0 on Friday.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20, as K-State hosts South Dakota State at Timbercreek Stables. Saturday’s match is free and open to the public and will start at approximately 10 a.m.
