Wildcat Equestrian Clips Baylor On Tiebreaker

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State Equestrian team opened its new facility and 2010 home schedule, with a win over Big 12 opponent Baylor on a perfect Friday afternoon at Timbercreek Stables, to improve their season record to 3-2.
 
The Bears and Wildcats tied with an overall point total of 10-10 but K-State narrowly came out ahead in the raw score total, 1366.5-1359.
 
Head coach Casie Lisabeth could not have been more proud about the way her team reacted when the stakes were high.

"Today was a huge win for our team and a great way to get the home season started in our new facility," said Lisabeth. "The team rode really strong and confident today. It came down to the very last ride and every little point to pull out a win and we are very pleased with the end result."
 
On the Hunter Seat side, Baylor defeated K-State by a margin of 7-3, with an overall score total of 729-664.
 
In Equitation on the Flat, junior Stephanie Patterson continued her hot streak, with a 79-73 victory over Baylor rider Kara Fergusson. The Calgary, Alberta native, now 4-1 on the year, also picked up K-State's lone MVP award of the day.
 
Sophomore Larissa Laffey also pushed her season record to 4-1, with a 68-66 win over Melanie Appel of Baylor. Finishing out the scoring for the Wildcats was freshman Rachel Webster, who defeated Baylor's Kim Woodsum, 71-66.
 
Kansas State riders competing in Equitation over Fences rode with good effort and energy but were swept by Baylor.
 
On the Western Stage, Kansas State defeated the Bears by a point total of 7-3, with an overall score total of 702.5-630.
 
In Western Exhibition action, Wildcat riders McKenzie True and Alayna Warner picked up victories over Baylor's Bryn Lindley and Olivia Rogers, respectively.
 
In Reining, K-State's Jordan Cox kicked off the scoring by slipping past Katherine Berg of Baylor, 69.5-69. Also adding to the Cats point total was freshman Kayla Hatfield, as she defeated Baylor's Amber Mooney, 72-68. K-State's Emily Stockford continued the scoring-blitz by shutting out Baylor rider Barbara Aiken, 59.5-0. Riding in the last position of the day, Wildcat rider Sam Etsell picked up her first win of the season by knocking off Adriana Riberiro of Baylor, 67-56.5.
 
On the Horsemanship side, Wildcat riders Hannah Ribera, Chayna DeNicolo, and Whitney Unkefer all picked up wins by the slimmest of margins against their Baylor counterparts. Ribera edged Baylor's Meghan Murphy, 72.5-71.5, DeNicolo knocked of Amber Mooney of Baylor, 73.5-72.5 and Unkefer eeked out a 73.5-73 win over BU's Blair Bergeson.
 
Kansas State will take a week off from competition before they look to build on the momentum of today's victory as they host South Carolina on Friday, October 29 at Timbercreek Stables.
