No. 9 Wildcats Look to Bounce Back in Stillwater

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The No. 9 Kansas State equestrian team will look to end a six meet drought, as they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma this weekend, as they will face the Cowgirls at 10 a.m., on Saturday at the Animal Science Arena.

This past fall, K-State defeated the Cowgirls, 12-7 at Timbercreek Stables and claimed three out of the four Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors: In Equitation over Fences, sophomore Taylor Schmidt, Equitation on the Flat, sophomore Henley Adkins and in Reining, junior Nicholle Hatton.

The Wildcats will look to defeat Oklahoma State on their home turf in hopes to return with their first victory since defeating the Cowgirls last semester on November 8, 2014.

The Hunt Seat team will be led by senior captain Madison Wayda. Alongside her competing in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences will be sophomores Henley Adkins and Taylor Schmidt. Sophomore Alexis Graves will join the trio in Equitation over Fences as well as freshman Molly Dunn, who will be making her second appearance of the season. Sophomore Gretchen Koenen and Christina Martinelli will compete in Equitation on the Flat who have both been very consistent for the Wildcats through out the course of the season.

Junior captain Danielle Kemper's experience and passion appeared to inspire the young Horsemanship team last weekend as the discipline outscored their opponents, 5-4. Kemper will look to senior Kelsey Sousa to help pave the way for a victory. Sophomore Alyssa Lombardi as well as freshmen Kirsten Chamberland and Paige Kemper will round out the starting lineup for the Wildcats in Horsemanship.

In Reining, K-State will look to senior captain Savannah Smith and junior standout Kara Guy to rally the Wildcats in this discipline. Guy recently was presented January National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Rider of the Month in Reining. She now holds a career record of 18-14-1, which includes a 4-5-1 mark this season. Junior Nicholle Hatton, freshmen Brynn Critcher and Jessica Johns look to pick up victories to help claim another win for the Wildcats as well.
