No. 10 Wildcats Hosts No. 1 Baylor on Senior Day

MANHATTAN, Kan. -Returning to the national rankings this week, the No. 10 Kansas State equestrian team will look to finish the regular season undefeated at home, when No. 1 Baylor visits Timbercreek Stables on Saturday at 10 a.m. for Senior Day. Admission to the meet is free and open to the public. Following the meet, K-State will have a ceremony honoring their seniors.

Kansas State comes into the meet undefeated on their home turf this season with a record of 6-0. The Wildcats will look to pick up their 18th home meet victory in the last two seasons and improve their overall record at home to 18-1.

"We are looking forward to wrapping up the regular season in Manhattan this weekend," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "It will be great to finish out at home with the entire team, but extra special as we will be honoring the five graduating seniors who have contributed a lot to our team during their collegiate careers.

The Wildcats are made up of a young team, but seniors Madison Wayda, Savannah Smith and Kelsey Sousa will compete at Timbercreek Stables for the last time this weekend in hopes for a conquest against the Bears. Throughout their collegiate careers, these women have combined for an 88-78-6 record while clinching 13 Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors for the Wildcats. The trio looks to make a similar impact in their home finale on Saturday.

The Wildcats will look to even up the series with the Lady Bears, as Baylor captured a 13-7 win in Waco during the fall season.

Wayda will lead the young Hunt Seat team while contributing a 15-9-2 record for the Wildcats this season. Alongside her competing in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences will besophomores Henley Adkins, Christina Martinelli and Taylor Schmidt. Schmidt has picked up back-to-back (MOP) honors in the past two meets - Oklahoma State, Flat, and TCU, Fences - while accumulating three total for the season.

Freshman Molly Dunn will join the quad in Equitation over Fences. Dunn is 2-1 in her season debut as a Wildcat. Sophomore Gretchen Koenen will compete in Equitation on the Flat as she looks to bring home a point for the Wildcats.

Junior captain Danielle Kemper's big win against TCU will give her the confidence that she needs to compete against Baylor's top notch Horsemanship lineup, as she and Sousa rally freshmen Sydney Anson, Kirsten Chamberland and Paige Kemper to round out the lineup for the Wildcats.

In Reining, K-State will look to Smith and junior standout Kara Guy to pave the way for the Wildcats in this discipline. Guyis undefeated so far in the spring season and looks to pick up her eighth point for the Wildcats this season. Junior Nicholle Hatton, freshmen Brynn Critcher and Jessica Johns will join the duo in this discipline.
