Equestrian to Host Two Shows This Weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State equestrian team will host two shows this weekend at Fox Creek Stables, including an IHSA Western Show Saturday, March 3 and a Varsity head-to-head match with Texas A&M Sunday, March 4.

K-State will send 24 Western riders including seven freshmen to face five other schools, including Black Hawk College, Iowa State, Missouri State, Northwest Missouri State and Truman State.

Saturday’s IHSA show will be split into two shows with the first beginning at 8 a.m. with Reining. After a one hour break, the second show will begin at 1 p.m., running in reverse order as the morning show. The shows will also feature Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Beginner Horsemanship and Open Reining.

“In Saturday’s IHSA show some of our younger riders that haven’t competed much this year will have a great opportunity,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “It’s time for some of them to shine.”

Sunday’s Varsity show will begin at 9 a.m. If weather permits, the riders will ride in the outdoor arena and the show will start with the Ancillary classes. However, if the riders can only use the indoor arena the Ancillary classes will not be ridden and the show will start with Equitation over Fences.

“We just competed against Texas A&M last week and we were very pleased with our English riding,” Slough said. “We would like to see the English riders continue their success, but we would really like our Western riders to redeem themselves after last week’s performance against Texas A&M.”

The Wildcats competed against the Aggies last week in College Station and took home a win in English, 6-5, but dropped the Western show, 9-2, for a 14-8, overall score.

Results from the weekend’s show will be available online at kstatesports.com as they become available.
