Equestrian Hosts Georgia Sunday

MANHATTAN, Kan. Coming off perhaps its best performance of the season, the Kansas State equestrian team will look to carry the momentum from last weekend’s win over Texas A&M as it hosts highly regarded Georgia this Sunday in a head-to-head varsity competition at Fox Creek Stables.

K-State competed against Georgia in the fall at the Georgia Invitational, dropping the contest overall by a score of 9-7. Georgia enters the weekend with a 7-1 record in varsity competitions.

“We had a big win in Western last weekend,” head coach Teresa Slough said. “We need to stay focused this weekend and get a win. Georgia has only lost once all year and we will definitely have our work cut out for us, but there is no doubt we are capable of getting the win.”

Sunday’s show will also feature a recognition ceremony for 13 senior Wildcat riders including team captains, Casey Finnell, Becky Abramovitz, Tiffany Bowles and Sara Weller.

The Wildcats will also welcome back the services of freshman Kendall Marvin this weekend as she comes back from competing at the Indio Desert Circuit Horse Show in Indio, Calif. This nationally recognized competition featured Marvin’s English riding skills as she took home a win in her class.

The head-to-head match will begin at 9 a.m. and is free to the public at Fox Creek Stables.

Last weekend against Texas A&M, Kansas State handed the Aggies their first Western loss of the season and three Wildcats, Laura Brown, Leslie Yates and Sara Weller, each won their respective varsity matches against opponents who were previously undefeated on the season.

Results from the weekend’s show will be available online at kstatesports.com as they become available.
