MANHATTAN, Kan. –The sixth-ranked Kansas State equestrian team will close out the 2010-11 regular season against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents at Timbercreek Stables this weekend as it will face No. 3 Auburn and No. 10 New Mexico State on Friday and Saturday.

K-State (4-7) is again facing some of the nation’s best competition as it has competed against all but two teams currently ranked in the VENC Top-10 Coaches Poll. Friday's match against Auburn will begin at 9 a.m., while action on Saturday will start at 10 a.m.

Head coach Casie Lisabeth views this weekend as an opportunity to not only go up against some of the best riders in the country but also to gauge where the Wildcats stand as they head into postseason action.

"This weekend's competition wraps up the regular season for our squad and will play a very important role in where we are ranked going into the National Championship,” said Lisabeth. “This is a challenging segment of the season where we are demanding more out of riders while also trying to figure out who is the most prepared moving into the postseason. We are looking for them to step up their game through every ride so we can really try to narrow down our weaknesses and push through for the rest of the season.”

On Friday, K-State will face the Auburn Tigers (9-3) for the second time this season as the two teams met back on September 23, 2010. The Wildcats fell to the Tigers, 14-4, to open up the 2010-11 season.

On Saturday, the Wildcats will face the Aggies of New Mexico State (4-3). NMSU is currently on a two-match losing skid.

K-State will be led by a pair of riders who have been two of the most consistent on the Wildcat squad this season.

In English action, Stephanie Patterson will look to continue her success against top-shelf competition this weekend. The junior is currently 7-3-1 with three match-MVP awards on the year.

On the Western side, freshman Kelly Bovaird will attempt to continue leading the Western squad to victory. The first-year rider has been awarded match-MVP honors three times this season to go along with her record of 7-3.

Saturday’s action will mark the last home match for seniors Christina Costello, Soffia Farrall de Cruz, Erica Mackiewicz, Jen Rawle, Jenni Wright and Jennifer Wright. K-State will recognize these individuals for their contributions to the program on Saturday.
